How to Set Up a Print-Ready File in Canva

Create Professional Print Files Every Time

To ensure your printed products look sharp, vibrant, and professional, please follow these guidelines when designing your artwork in Canva before submitting your order to Majestic Printing Systems.

Step 1: Create Your Design at the Correct Size

Set your Canva document to the exact finished size of your printed product.

Examples:

• Business Card: 3.5" × 2"
• Postcard: 4" × 6", 5" × 7", or 6" × 9"
• Flyer: 8.5" × 11"
• Poster: 24" × 36"

Important: Design at full size. Do not create a smaller file and enlarge it later.

Step 2: Add Bleed to Your Design

Bleed is the extra image area that extends beyond the trim line to prevent unwanted white edges after cutting.

Canva Bleed Setup:

1. Click File
2. Select View Settings
3. Turn on Show Print Bleed

Bleed Requirements:

• Extend all backgrounds, photos, and color blocks to the bleed line.
• Keep important text and logos at least 0.125" (1/8") inside the trim edge.

Safe Area Example:

If your postcard is 4" × 6":

• Finished Size: 4" × 6"
• Bleed Area: 4.25" × 6.25"
• Keep text at least 1/8" from all edges.

Step 3: Use High Resolution Images

For the best print quality:

Image Resolution:

• Minimum: 300 DPI
• Recommended: 300 DPI or higher

Avoid:

• Screenshots
• Images downloaded from social media
• Low-resolution web graphics

These often appear blurry or pixelated when printed.

Step 4: Use CMYK Colors When Possible

Commercial printing presses print using CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black) inks.

Canva designs are typically created in RGB, but Canva Pro allows PDF exports optimized for professional printing.

While exact CMYK color control may be limited in Canva, exporting as a Print PDF will provide the best results.

Note: Colors viewed on a monitor may appear slightly different when printed.

Step 5: Review Your Design Carefully

Before exporting:

✔ Check spelling and grammar

✔ Verify phone numbers, websites, and email addresses

✔ Ensure all images are clear and sharp

✔ Make sure important content stays inside the safe area

✔ Confirm all backgrounds extend to the bleed edge

Step 6: Export a Print-Ready PDF

Recommended Export Settings

1. Click Share
2. Click Download
3. Select PDF Print
4. Enable:
   • ✔ Crop Marks and Bleed
   • ✔ Flatten PDF (if available)
5. Click Download

File Type:

PDF Print (Recommended)

This provides:

• High-resolution output
• Embedded fonts
• Professional print quality
• Bleed and crop mark support
